Design Overview   Step #1 – Property Measurement and Site Analysis The first thing we’ll do is measure your property and create a base plan. We’ll also look over your property and note the strong points as well as problem areas. This will serve as the starting for our design, as we will know exactly what we’re working with.
Step #2 – Design Interview The next step is to meet with you and discuss your needs and goals for the landscape project. We’ll discuss how you’ll be using the yard, maintenance and water use issues, and of course design style!
Step #3 – Concept Sketches After our meeting, I will create a series of sketches that will illustrate a few different design options. This will allow you to see a few different possibilities - perhaps something you hadn’t thought of! We will review these sketches, and choose the best parts of each.
Step #4 – Landscape Master Plan At this point we have analyzed your existing property, discussed your needs and wants, and, explored design possibilities. I will now create a Landscape Master Plan. This plan will be an accurate layout plan, to scale, showing all of the landscape elements that we have chosen. It will call out key materials to be used, key plantings, and lighting locations.

I charge $60 per hour for all design and consultation work, including travel to your location. Alternately, I can usually give you a fixed bid for a certain defined design project. I have also created a few Design Packages that offer you a complete design at a fixed fee.

Standard Design Package

This package includes all of the above Design Steps, 1 – 4. This is a good choice in most cases, and gets great results.

Basic Design Package

This package includes the above Design Steps, 1 & 2, skips 3 (Concept Sketches), and goes right to step 4. This is a good choice in cases where the design is rather simple, or if you already have a good idea of what you want.

This plan will usually be sufficient to complete the landscaping project. However, if more detailed plans are needed, we can provide them. Some of these would be:

I can help you assemble bids, coordinate the project, and see it through to completion. This can play a critical role in ensuring that everything comes out right. I charge either my standard design rate, or a percentage of job cost for this service.
